Embroidery Yarns // Semi-solids

Regular price £2.50

***Embroidery yarns are unavailable for now, they will return in early 2022.***

Embroidery yarns... exciting, right?! 🥳 AND some of them are neon, which means they're UV reactive 😎

This listing is for the semi-solids, there's another listing here for the variegated/speckled ones.

(A note on the neon purple - the dye 'splits' during the dyeing process, which is why it has dark and lighter patches. It's unpredictable, and delightful because of this.)

These little semi-solid babies are 3g, 24m, of delicious creative possibility.

Colourways are:

  • Red
  • Neon Coral
  • Neon Yellow
  • Neon Green
  • Aqua Blue
  • Glowing Blue
  • Violet
  • Neon Purple
  • Neon Pink

Use them for modern embroidery or Crewel, visible mending, Temari balls, fine needlepoint, cross stitch, bracelet weaving, micro crochet, surface stitching over your knits and crochets... I'm sure there are a thousand more uses that I haven't even begun to be aware of yet! 🌈

There are two options - 55% BFL/45% Mulberry Silk, and 100% Mulberry Silk. Both are 24m for 3g, and are classed as laceweight yarns at 800m/100g. They are Superwash which means they won't felt.

They are 2ply and I would not recommend splitting either of them due to the twist in the ply making this quite difficult without tangles and knots. I would say the two strands together equal about three strands of stranded cotton. There are some photos at the bottom which show some examples of them in action:

  • the Trust The Process WIP; the kit is by Clare Albans of Hello! Hooray!, it came with threads which I subbed out for my semi-solids where I could.
  • Claire (BaaMeow, see below) created the most beautiful Temari ball (a craft I need to take up ASAP!!) and did some test stitches on aida for us.
  • Sparkle Wherever You Go pattern by The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery, being stitched by me using Neon Pink, Neon Coral, Neon Yellow, Neon Green, Aqua Blue, and Violet

I have enjoyed working with them immensely, and I hope you do too!

Here is a review from Claire at BaaMeow, who is a professional cross stitch and blackwork designer, who was generous enough to give me some of her creative time to test them out for me, below:

"My notes are primarily related to the silk thread as that is the one I played with the most 😊 I approached my tests from the POV of a cross stitcher, who dabbles in other fibre arts.

So, it’s a non-divisible silk perle which can also be used for cross stitch! The weight/thickness is comparable to a #8 coton perle (cotton pearl) or 2-3 strands of cotton embroidery floss.

On 14ct Aida it gives dense coverage, but doesn’t feel tight or crowded when stitching. On 20ct Bellana Evenweave (over 2) the coverage is smooth and flowing, allowing nice even stitches and showing a little of the fabric- perfect for those who like to ‘see the Xs' in their projects.

The silks are glossy and lovely to handle, not slippery (thank goodness!) and they leave a small soft ‘halo' around the stitches, in the same way as many spun silk flosses.

The BFL/silk blend is a treat as well and could also add texture to cross stitch or make gorgeous small-scale Bargello! 😍

The space dyed/fancy colourways stitch up in exciting and unexpected ways – I suggest using the English Method (one X at a time) when using these threads to get the most out of the short colour changes.

Final words: the threads are gorgeous. The colours are stunning neons, a rarity in the embroidery world and they are suitable for such a variety of projects. So far I’ve tried long stitch, needlepoint, cross stitch and temari and I’m full of ideas for future projects. I’m thrilled to add these to my stash

❤️ "

Dyed with professional acid dyes and rinsed thoroughly.

Please bear in mind if you are planning a project that shades between batches may vary due to different dye batches.

Order processing times

Run up to Christmas: N.B. Please note I cannot guarantee delivery by Christmas for orders placed from now due to current order processing times (I'm running about 3-4 weeks for despatch from ordering at the moment) and due to upcoming time booked off (I'm away from 9th Dec to 16th Dec so no shipping or dyeing at all during that time until after I'm back) ❤️

Orders are being processed mostly chronologically (Ready To Ship orders will jump the queue, because of the logistics of being able to get them out the door sooner because they're already dyed, which leaves my order list less heavy on my shoulders 😘), which means if you order now, yes your wait time is long, but you have your place in the neon rainbow queue 🤗 🌈

Re postage in December - last posting before my holiday is 7th December, then post collections will not resume again until 24th December. Next collection after 24th December is 31st December, then collections go back to twice weekly thereafter in 2022.

Normal business: I will try to prepare your order for shipping within 5-10 business days of ordering, and most orders are indeed shipped within a couple of weeks; please do note that I live with chronic invisible illness which means my capabilities aren't the same from day to day. I have been relatively stable for the last couple of years, but during 2021 I have noticed an uptick in symptoms, which do impact on my dyeing capabilities.

This means I now get things done within my daily capabilities, without pushing myself as this can lead to larger flare ups. Please know that I am always trying to work in one way or another, and the orders are always processed and shipped to the best of my abilities, as quickly as I can manage it 🥰

So please do allow some flexibility in your shipping expectations ❤️ This will allow me to stress less about any flare ups I might have which slow me down while I'm working through orders, and this keeps me healthier as stress is one of my biggest triggers (it's just one big continuous feedback loop 😅).

I ship orders twice a week, all are sent tracked through Royal Mail.

Please check your junk folder for the shipping confirmation before getting in touch about an overdue order, as some email providers like to put me there.

Customers are responsible for all customs VAT/duties fees on receipt of Goods.

None of my prices include VAT, so you may be charged VAT by your country's customs authorities before the parcel will be released to you, according to the goods value threshold in your country. I am not in control of this, and I do not control the admin fees you may incur on top of the VAT charges. Please take this into account when ordering.

Re Covid-19, I am currently shipping to anywhere Royal Mail has no issues with - please see this Royal Mail International Incidents Bulletin page for further details re me posting to your country. If a country says 'on suspension' beside it, please note I will keep hold of your order until the suspension has been lifted.

Please also note, the length of time your parcel is in transit may be longer than usual.

If you aren't accepting of potentially long transit times outside of my control, please do not place an order, as it isn't worth the stress for both of us ❤️ Many thanks!!
