Embroidery Yarns // Semi-solids

Regular price £2.50

*I will be dyeing embroidery yarns on a weekly basis, please allow 5-10 working days for your order to be ready.*

Embroidery yarns... exciting, right?! 🥳 AND some of them are neon, which means they're UV reactive 😎

This listing is for the semi-solids, there's another listing here for the variegated/speckled ones.

(A note on the neon purple - the dye 'splits' during the dyeing process, which is why it has dark and lighter patches. It's unpredictable, and delightful because of this.)

These little semi-solid babies are 3g, 24m, of delicious creative possibility.

Colourways are:

  • Red
  • Neon Coral
  • Neon Yellow
  • Neon Green
  • Aqua Blue
  • Glowing Blue
  • Violet
  • Neon Purple
  • Neon Pink

Use them for modern embroidery or Crewel, visible mending, Temari balls, fine needlepoint, cross stitch, bracelet weaving, micro crochet, surface stitching over your knits and crochets... I'm sure there are a thousand more uses that I haven't even begun to be aware of yet! 🌈

There are two options - 55% BFL/45% Mulberry Silk, and 100% Mulberry Silk. Both are 24m for 3g, and are classed as laceweight yarns at 800m/100g. They are Superwash which means they won't felt.

They are 2ply and I would not recommend splitting either of them due to the twist in the ply making this quite difficult without tangles and knots. I would say the two strands together equal about three strands of stranded cotton. There are some photos at the bottom which show some examples of them in action:

  • the Trust The Process WIP; the kit is by Clare Albans of Hello! Hooray!, it came with threads which I subbed out for my semi-solids where I could.
  • Claire (BaaMeow, see below) created the most beautiful Temari ball (a craft I need to take up ASAP!!) and did some test stitches on aida for us.
  • Sparkle Wherever You Go pattern by The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery, being stitched by me using Neon Pink, Neon Coral, Neon Yellow, Neon Green, Aqua Blue, and Violet

I have enjoyed working with them immensely, and I hope you do too!

Here is a review from Claire at BaaMeow, who is a professional cross stitch and blackwork designer, who was generous enough to give me some of her creative time to test them out for me, below:

"My notes are primarily related to the silk thread as that is the one I played with the most 😊 I approached my tests from the POV of a cross stitcher, who dabbles in other fibre arts.

So, it’s a non-divisible silk perle which can also be used for cross stitch! The weight/thickness is comparable to a #8 coton perle (cotton pearl) or 2-3 strands of cotton embroidery floss.

On 14ct Aida it gives dense coverage, but doesn’t feel tight or crowded when stitching. On 20ct Bellana Evenweave (over 2) the coverage is smooth and flowing, allowing nice even stitches and showing a little of the fabric- perfect for those who like to ‘see the Xs' in their projects.

The silks are glossy and lovely to handle, not slippery (thank goodness!) and they leave a small soft ‘halo' around the stitches, in the same way as many spun silk flosses.

The BFL/silk blend is a treat as well and could also add texture to cross stitch or make gorgeous small-scale Bargello! 😍

The space dyed/fancy colourways stitch up in exciting and unexpected ways – I suggest using the English Method (one X at a time) when using these threads to get the most out of the short colour changes.

Final words: the threads are gorgeous. The colours are stunning neons, a rarity in the embroidery world and they are suitable for such a variety of projects. So far I’ve tried long stitch, needlepoint, cross stitch and temari and I’m full of ideas for future projects. I’m thrilled to add these to my stash
